Custom Auto Body Paint Step 6: Applying Basecoat

The basecoat is the actual paint applied to the vehicle. This is the part where your chosen colour and paint type is spray painted onto your car. Although the colours available for you to choose from will vary widely, the type of paint used for automotive paint jobs are generally categorised into three: solid paints, metallic paints, and pearlescent paints. Each of these provide different visual effects to the vehicle. Solid paints lack sparkle yet provides a nice touch of colour. Metallic paints on the other hand contain aluminum flakes, and these are what gives the paint a sparkling effect. Pearlescent paints though are better at creating a more glittery effect than metallic paints due to their ‘pearl’ pigment contents. This is also where custom car detailing are completed.
